Titre : Anthropology from a Kantian point of view Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Robert B. Louden, Auteur Editeur : New York (N.Y.) : Cambridge university press Année de publication : 2021 Collection : Cambridge elements Sous-collection : Elements in the philosophy of Immanuel Kant Importance : 53 p Format : 23 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-108-74228-3 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Kant - Anthropologie - Philosophie de l'homme Index. décimale : 128.0 Résumé : "Kant's anthropological works represent a very different side of his philosophy, one that stands in sharp contrast to the critical philosophy of the three Critiques. For the most part, Kantian anthropology is an empirical, popular, and, above all, pragmatic enterprise. After tracing its origins both within his own writings and within Enlightenment culture, the Element turns next to an analysis of the structure and several key themes of Kantian anthropology, followed by a discussion of two longstanding contested features - viz., moral anthropology and transcendental anthropology. The Element concludes with a defense of the value and importance of Kantian anthropology, along with replies to a variety of criticisms that have been levelled at it over the years. Kantian anthropology, the author argues, is 'the eye of true philosophy'" Anthropology from a Kantian point of view [texte imprimé] / Robert B. Titre : Developmental criminology and the crime decline : a comparative analysis of the criminal careers of two New South Wales birth cohorts Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Jason Payne, Auteur ; Alexis Russell Piquero, Auteur Editeur : New York (N.Y.) : Cambridge university press Année de publication : 2020 Collection : Elements in criminology Importance : 93 p Format : 23 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-108-88214-9 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Criminologie - Nouvelle-Galles du Sud (Australie) - Criminalit Résumé : Throughout the 1990s many countries around the world experienced the beginnings of what would later become the most significant and protracted decline in crime ever recorded. Although not a universal experience, the so-called international crime-drop was an unpredicted and unprecedented event which now offers fertile ground for reflection on many of criminology's key theories and debates. Through the lens of developmental and life-course criminology, this Element compares the criminal offending trajectories of two Australian birth cohorts born ten years apart in 1984 and 1994. It finds that the crime-drop was unlikely the result of any significant change in the prevalence or persistence of early-onset and chronic offending, but the disproportionate disappearance of their low-rate, adolescent-onset peers. Despite decades of research that has prioritized interventions for at-risk chronic offenders, it seems our greatest global crime prevention achievement to date was in reducing the prevalence of criminal offending in the general population Developmental criminology and the crime decline : a comparative analysis of the criminal careers of two New South Wales birth cohorts [texte imprimé] / Jason Payne, Auteur ; Alexis Russell Piquero, Auteur . - New York (N.Y.) : Cambridge university press, 2020 . - 93 p ; 23 cm. - (Elements in criminology) .

Titre : The Cambridge handbook of cognitive aging : a life course perspective Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Ayanna K. Thomas, Éditeur scientifique ; Angela Gutchess, Éditeur scientifique Editeur : New York (N.Y.) : Cambridge university press Collection : Cambridge handbooks in psychology Importance : 764 p Format : 25 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-108-42834-7 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : G Index. décimale : 155.6 Résumé : "Decades of research have demonstrated that normal aging accompanies cognitive change. Much of this change has been conceptualized as a decline in function. However, age-related changes are not universal. Oft-found decrements in older adult performance may be moderated by experience, genetics, and environmental factors. To date, cognitive aging has largely emphasized biological changes in the brain, with less evaluation of the range of external contributors to behavioral manifestations of age-related decrements in performance. The goal of this book is to examine cognitive aging through the lens of a life course perspective. Understanding cognition within the context of both the life-span (aging) and the life-course (experience) is a relatively new approach to the field of cognitive aging. However, the approach has already pushed the field forward in theoretically and practically important ways. This edited volume will focus on fundamental principles that characterize a life course approach to cognitive aging by (1) presenting an overview of lifespan and life course models of cognitive aging; (2) presenting the recent state of domain-specific models; (3) considering older cognition in socioemotional contexts; (4) considering the influences of early life and biological predispositions (5) and ending with a review of later life interventions" The Cambridge handbook of cognitive aging : a life course perspective [texte imprimé] / Ayanna K. Index Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Psychologie Droits de l'homme Index. décimale : 323 Résumé : "Two sentiments governed the post-war world: fear and hope. Fear of slipping into an unimaginable, worldwide atomic confrontation even more violent and destructive than the Second World War; and hope that, if the people of world could only acknowledge their common dignity, nations might find a way to perpetuate peace for the foreseeable future. These two feelings dominated the debates that gave birth to both the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In late April 1946, shrouded in the shadow of a horrific world war, nine delegates, selected for their individual expertise, gathered in New York at Hunter College to discuss what action the four-month old United Nations should take to advance "universal respect for, and observance of, human rights and fundamental freedoms," as set forth in the UN Charter (Art. 55).
